Glass Balustrades for Internal Ramps – Birmingham Installation
We recently completed a commercial install in Birmingham. The job included base-fixed glass balustrades with stainless steel handrails for internal access ramps, along with wall-mounted rails for added safety.
Why Choose Glass Balustrades?
Glass balustrades for internal ramps are a clean, safe solution for public buildings. They give you full edge protection without closing the space in. They also meet current safety regulations and help make access routes fully compliant.
Unlike solid walls or metal rails, glass keeps the area open. It’s ideal for retail, office, or public environments where you want a smart, low-profile finish that still does the job.
What the Job Involved
This Birmingham project included:
- Internal access ramp with a continuous fall
- Base-fixed track system with laminated glass panels
- Stainless steel handrails through-glass on the ramp side
- Wall-mounted stainless steel rails to match
The glass track followed the full length of the ramp and around the landing return. All handrails were aligned for smooth, uninterrupted use.
Materials Used
- Aluminium base track system
- Safety laminated glass panels
- Through-glass handrail brackets
- Stainless steel round handrails
- Wall-mounted rail fixings
Building Regs and Safety
This setup was installed to comply with UK building regulations, including BS6180:2011 for barriers in public buildings. The continuous handrail, proper returns, and toughened laminated glass all form part of a compliant system.
The ramp rails offer grip support from end to end, including returns at landings and corners. Wall rails were added in areas without glass to maintain full user access throughout the route.
