Across the Trinity Stand and new hospitality areas

Our work formed part of the new Villa Park development, with a substantial amount of balustrading across the Trinity Road Stand. The installation also extended into the south-east and south-west corners, taking in several separate areas of the ground within the same supply-and-install package.

The scope included extensive work in the brand-new Legends Lounge, Sports Bar and McGregor’s Bar tiers. These hospitality areas were a major part of the project, alongside the other new glass balustrades included in our contract.

We used frameless glass throughout the installation. That gave the different areas a consistent approach to the balustrading, while allowing the glass specification and support system to vary across the work.

For a stadium project, the appearance is only one part of the specification. The fixing arrangement and required performance also need attention. Here, the package brought together track-supported glass and panels secured with individual stainless steel adapters.

Glass specification and fixing details

The Villa Park glass balustrades used two main glass specifications: 25.5 mm laminated and 33 mm triple-laminated glass. We also installed two different fixing arrangements, with heavy-duty glass tracks in the areas requiring a crush rating and circular stainless steel adapters for the side-fixed panels.

Heavy-duty tracks for crush-rated areas

We supplied and installed heavy-duty glass tracks where the project required a crush rating. These were a specific part of the stadium balustrading package, rather than a description applied to every panel throughout the development.

If your project includes crowd-loading requirements, share those requirements when requesting a quote. Glass thickness alone does not describe the performance of an installed barrier; the support system, connections and supporting structure also need project-specific assessment.

Side-fixed glass with 50 mm stainless steel adapters

In other areas, we side-fixed the glass panels using circular 50 mm stainless steel glass adapters. These individual fittings provided a different fixing detail from the continuous glass tracks, while keeping the balustrades within the frameless glass approach used throughout our work.

Completed before the first home game against Arsenal

We completed the approximately 500 m installation without issue and in time for Aston Villa’s first home game of the season against Arsenal. Delivering our balustrade package before that fixture was a clear result for the customer, alongside the scale of the work itself.

Our team combined that delivery with competitive pricing and attentive service. We supplied and installed the agreed glass balustrading across the different stadium areas, completing the job within the required timeframe.

With this phase finished, we have now installed approximately 750 m of balustrading at Villa Park. That total includes our earlier work at the ground as well as the latest 500 m package.

What matters when specifying stadium balustrades?

A stadium installation needs a specification suited to the individual area and its use. Required loads, barrier height, gaps, glass construction, fixings and supporting structure should be confirmed by the project designer or engineer, with the relevant approval bodies involved as applicable.

In England, Approved Document K provides guidance on protection from falling, collision and impact, including guarding. The Sports Grounds Safety Authority also publishes guidance on the physical design factors affecting sports-ground safety.

For this installation, the heavy-duty tracks addressed the areas identified as requiring a crush rating within our package. For your project, send the specified loading requirements and available structural information so the proposed balustrade can be considered in its actual setting.
